Rationing 1939-1950: The Household Experience

Tuesday 6 October, 2pm-3.30pm. Mount Albert War Memorial Hall.

This event is part of Auckland Council’s Heritage Festival 2026. It is open to everybody. Please let us know you are coming, for catering purposes.

During the Second World War in New Zealand, rationing for domestic consumption began in 1939 and was not lifted until 1950. This presentation looks at the items that were rationed and places rationing in the broader context of the war, economy, and social conditions.

Lynley Stone from Mt Albert Historical Society uses local examples to illustrate the talk.

Afternoon tea will be provided.
