NAME:

Challinor Cres was earlier known as Challenger St. This may have been named after HMS Challenger (1869) (Davenport, 1990, p.47).

Challinor Cres may have been named after the Purchas family (Davenport, 1990, p.47).

DESCRIPTION:

Linwood Ave was once part of Challinor Cres (Auckland Libraries, n.d.).

Challinor Cres is a cul de sac that runs south from Linwood Ave.

Numbers 1 to 21 lie on the west side. Numbers 2 to 12 lie on the east side.

FACTS ABOUT THIS STREET:

1937: “described as 130 yards long, with 17 residences and having been named 11 years before (1926)” (Auckland Libraries, n.d.).
