On Saturday 7 November at 2 pm past pupils, staff, present pupils and their families gathered at Mt Albert Primary School.
The reunion march was led by past pupils from the 1940s. The march paraded around the school. The former pupils were welcomed onto the grounds with an enthusiastic haka performed by students. The Principal Ms Marian Caulfield welcomed visitors and everyone sang the National Anthem.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern was the guest speaker. She stressed the value and importance of good primary school education. She unveiled a memorial plaque to mark the occasion. Current students presented past pupils from the 1940s with gifts. Posies for the ladies and a beer and box of chocolates for the gentlemen.
The birthday cake was cut and everyone sang happy birthday. Afternoon tea followed in the marquee where past pupils were able to catch up with former friends who they had not seen for decades. The hundreds of people who attended declared the 150th celebrations a great success.
