NAME:
Stilwell Rd was known as Belmont Rd to 1938, when many streets in Mt Albert were renamed.
W.F. Stilwell was Mayor of Mt Albert Borough (1931-33) (Davenport, 1990, p.212).
Belmont Rd was named for the house, Belmont (29 Stilwell Rd), which stands on the upper corner of the intersection of Stilwell Rd and Summit Drive.
DESCRIPTION:
Stilwell Rd runs from Allendale Rd to Summit Dr. Ferner Ave runs off it.
Numbers 1 to 29 lie on the south west side of the road. Numbers 2 to 12 lie on the north east side of the road.
FACTS ABOUT THIS STREET:
1937: “described as 200 yards long, with 12 residences” (Auckland Libraries, n.d.).
