Thanet Ave was known as Thames Ave until 1938 when many streets in Mt Albert were renamed.
It was named Thames St because the landowners had been miners in Thames, New Zealand.
Both Thames and Thanet are English rivers (Davenport, 1990, p.224).
Thanet Ave is a cul de sac that runs east from Aroha Ave towards Gribblehurst Park.
Numbers 1 to 7 lie on the south side of the road. Numbers 2 to 8 lie on the north side of the road.
