NAME:
Brewster Ave was known as Bruce Ave until 1938, when many streets in Mt Albert were renamed. The name Bruce, both given name and surname, appears in the family tree of William Main Johnstone, the subdivider. This may be the origin of the name.
DESCRIPTION:
Brewster Ave is a cul de sac that runs east from Malvern Rd.
Numbers 1 to 25 lie on the south side of the road. Numbers 2 to 28 lie on the north side of the road.
FACTS ABOUT THIS STREET:
1932: Road created in a subdivision by William Main Johnstone.
1937: “described as 120 yards long, with 12 residences and named 10 years before (1927)” (Auckland Libraries, n.d.).
