NAME:
Ferner Ave was known as Belmont Ave until 1938, when many streets in Mt Albert were renamed.
Ferner Ave was named after Mt Albert Mayor, Raymond Ferner (1933-1936) (Auckland Libraries, n.d.; Davenport, 1990, p.76).
Belmont Ave was named by William Winstone as part of his 1904 subdivision Belmont Estate. It refers to the Belmont Farm near Failand in Somerset where William grew up.
DESCRIPTION:
Ferner Ave runs south west from Mt Albert Rd to Stilwell Rd.
Numbers 1 to 17 lie on the north west side. Numbers 2 to 14 lie on the south east side.
FACTS ABOUT THIS ROAD:
1937: “described as 120 yards long and with 11 residences” (Auckland Libraries, n.d.).
