Print Friendly, PDF & Email

NAME:

Levonia St was known as Livingstone St until 1938, when many streets in Mt Albert were renamed.  (Auckland Libraries, n.d.; Davenport, 1990, p.123).

Levonia can be both a given name and a surname. There is no known link to this area.

Livingstone St was named after the explorer, David Livingstone (Davenport, 1990, p.127).

DESCRIPTION:

Levonia St is a continuation of Don Croot St. It runs west from the Finch St intersection to the Warwick St intersection. It is continued by Myrtle St.

Mountain View Rd bisects it.

On the north side, numbers run from 1 to 31. On the south side, numbers run from 4 to 30.

FACTS ABOUT THIS STREET:

1922, April 13. It was reported that a house was built on the wrong section (Auckland Star, from Papers Past).

1937: “described as 12 chains long, with 1 business premises and 22 residences, and originally named 10 years before (1927) “(Auckland Libraries, n.d.). The 1927 date for naming is incorrect, as it was referred to in March 1922 (see above).
