There is more than one story about the origin of the name of this street:
- Named after Adeline Violet Taylor, daughter of Allan and Sophia Kerr Taylor (Auckland Libraries, n.d.).
- The name of a ketch which was a coastal trader in the 1860s (Davenport, 1990, p.237).

Violet St runs between Bennett St and Alexis Ave.
On the northern side, numbers run from 1 to 13. On the southern side, numbers run from 2 to 12.
