New North Rd

NAME:

New North Rd is a descriptive name – this road was built after Great North Rd, as an alternative route.

DESCRIPTION:

New North Rd starts at the intersection of Mt Eden Rd and Symonds St. Mt Albert Borough begins to the west of the Dominion Rd flyover, and continues through Kingsland, Morningside and Mt Albert to Blockhouse Bay Rd, which is a few blocks west of the border of Mt Albert Borough.

Between c1865- c1875, this road was called New Great North Rd.

Later, it was known as Whau Rd (which continued west past the Blockhouse Bay Rd intersection).

On the north side, number 322 New North Rd sits inside the old Mt Albert Borough Council boundaries: several Aitken Tce sections back on to New North Rd at the north eastern boundary of Mt Albert. On the north side it runs to 1230. On the south side of the street it runs from number 310 to number 1258.
