Sainsbury Rd

NAME:

Sainsbury Rd was known as Salisbury Rd until 1938 when many streets in Mt Albert were renamed.

Sainsbury Rd is named after a region in England (Davenport 1990, p.202).

The Marquis of Salisbury was Prime Minister of GB three times between 1885-1895.

DESCRIPTION:

Sainsbury Ave runs south east from New North Rd to Morningside Dr.

Taylors Rd bisects it.

On the south west side of the road lie numbers 1 to 55. On the north east side lie numbers 6 to 52.

FACTS ABOUT THIS STREET:

1937: “described as 19 chains long, with 12 residences, and named 12 years before (1925)” (Auckland Libraries, n.d.).
