NAME:
Kitenui Ave was known as Mountain Rd until 1938, when many streets in Mt Albert were renamed.
Kitenui means “seeing many things” in te reo Māori (Auckland Libraries, n.d.) or a wide or long view (Davenport, 1990, p.120).
DESCRIPTION:
Kitenui Ave runs south west from New North Rd to Mt Albert Rd.
On the north west side, numbers run from 3 to 71. On the south east side, numbers run from 4 to 92.
Bennett St and Oakfield Ave run off it. Alexis Ave bisects it. Willis St runs off it. Lloyd Ave bisects it.
FACTS ABOUT THIS STREET:
1937: “described as 600 yards long, with 3 business premises and 53 residences” (Auckland Libraries, n.d.).
